Friday's Mega Millions jackpot increases to $334,000,000; 2 second prize tickets sold

The Mega Millions grand prize is on the move again. The jackpot for the Friday, November 8th, 2024 drawing increases to $334,000,000 with the cash value at a projected $$155.7 million. The winning numbers from Tuesday, November 5th, 2024 drawing were 02, 24, 25, 52, 58 with Mega Ball number 09 and Megaplier x2. The Mega Millions grand prize has been growing for 16 draws since Friday, September 13th, 2024.The last jackpot was won by a single ticket sold in TX, matched all six numbers for a $800 million top prize.
Even though there was no jackpot winner Tuesday evening, Mega Millions had some huge winners. There were 2 tickets that correctly matched all 5 white ball numbers and won the second prize. The 2 lucky ticket(s) bought in CA,MI, each won one million dollar cash by matching all 5 white ball numbers.
Other prizes won Tuesday evening included 15 tickets that matched 4 white ball numbers as well as the Mega Ball and won $10,000. Additional prizes won Tuesday evening included 313 tickets that matched 4 white numbers and won $500. Other prizes won included 914 tickets that matched 3 white numbers plus the Mega Ball and won $200.

Mega Millions is a consortium involving 44 state lotteries. It holds the record largest jackpot in North American lottery history. On average, 50% of the Mega Millions sales goes back on the players in prize winnings. Roughly 15% is used to as commission of retailers and lottery operating costs. Approximately 35% total sales is used to support government services, education and charities in the participating lottery states. Mega Millions drawings occur 2 times a week every Tuesday and Friday night at 7:59 p.m. Pacific Time. Mega Millions lottery uses a 5/70+1/25 system from which winning numbers are chosen. Each play costs $1. In some states, players can choose to spend $1 extra to buy the Megaplier, which multiplies the winnings 2 to 5 times but not grand prize. The odds of winning is about 1 to 14. The odds of matching 6 Mega Millions numbers are 1 to 302,575,350. The minimum Mega Millions advertised jackpot starts at $40 million. Its annuity option is paid in 30 equal yearly installments. Winners may choose one lump sum cash payout instead.
As opposed to other Mega Millions participants, all the nine prize tiers of California Mega Millions are pari-mutuel, instead of non-jackpot prize having a set value. This leads to different prize amounts for equivalent winners sold in California when compared to those sold in other jurisdictons. One example is, the second Mega Millions prizes is a million dollar could pay the winner more than a million dollar due to the pari-mutuel payout system of California lottery. For the same reason, California state lottery doesn't offer Megaplier like other Mega Millions states.
