Mega Millions jackpot increases to $277 million Friday, April 23rd, 2021; 2 second prize tickets sold

The lottery official announced that the Tuesday, April 20th, 2021, Mega Millions drawing resulted in a roll-over, generating an $277 million jackpot for the next drawing Friday. The lump-sum cash payout will be a projected $189.2 million up for grab. The winning numbers from Tuesday, April 20th, 2021 drawing were 06-23-43-49-52 and the Mega Ball was 05, Megaplier was 3. There was no jackpot winning ticket sold in the past 783 draws since Friday, October 4th, 2013.The last jackpot was won by a lucky ticket sold in Maryland, matched all six numbers for a $189 million top prize.
Though there was no grand prize winner Tuesday evening, Mega Millions did produce some big winners. There were 2 2nd prize winning tickets from Tuesday night's drawing, matching the first five white ball numbers except the Mega Ball number. The 2 lucky ticket(s) purchased in , each won one million dollar cash by matching all 5 white ball numbers.
Also, 17 tickets matched four of the five lotto numbers, plus the Mega Ball number. Those tickets are each worth $10,000. Other prizes won Tuesday night included 449 tickets that matched 4 lotto numbers and won $500. 1168 tickets matched three of the five lotto numbers, plus the Mega Ball number. These tickets are also each worth $200.
With nine prize tiers, there were 1,865,274 winning tickets sold across the nation in the Tuesday, April 20th, 2021 drawing.
Mega Millions is a consortium involving 44 state lotteries. It holds the record highest jackpot in North American lottery history. Mega Millions game uses a 5/70 (white balls) + 1/25 (Mega Balls) matrix from which winning numbers are chosen. The odds of winning is about 1 to 14. The odds of winning Mega Millions jackpot are 1 to 302,575,350. The minimum Mega Millions advertised jackpot starts at $40,000,000. The annuity option is paid in 30 equal yearly payments. Winners can choose one-time lump sum cash payout option instead.
Compared with other Mega Millions states, all the 9 prize tiers of California Mega Millions are parimutuel, as opposed to non-jackpot prize having a set value. This results in different amounts of prize for equivalent winning tickets sold in California when compared to those sold in other Mega Millions states. Such as, the 2nd Mega Millions prizes is $1,000,000 could pay the winner over $1000,000 due to the pari-mutuel payout system of California lottery. For the same reason, CA state lottery does not have Megaplier like other Mega Millions participants.
