Tuesday's Mega Millions jackpot leaps to $257 million; 1 second prize ticket sold

The lottery official announced that the Friday, April 16th, 2021, Mega Millions drawing resulted in a carry over, producing an $257 million grand prize for the next drawing Tuesday. The cash value stands at a projected $175.9 million. The numbers drawn Friday night, April 16th, 2021 were 17-27-28-50-55 and the Mega Ball was 25, Megaplier was 4.

Although there was no jackpot winner Friday evening, Mega Millions did produce some big winners. There was a single 2nd prize winning ticket from Friday night's Mega Millions drawing, matching all five white ball numbers except the Mega Ball number. The 1 second prize winning ticket(s) sold in will collect a million dollar cash each.

Other major winners Friday night included 16 tickets that matched four white ball numbers as well as the Mega Ball and won $10,000. Other prizes won Friday evening included 444 tickets that matched four white numbers and won $500. Other prizes won included 1180 tickets that matched 3 white numbers as well as the Mega Ball and won $200.

With nine prize tiers, there were 1,644,528 winning tickets sold across the nation in the Friday, April 16th, 2021 drawing.

Mega Millions can be played in 43 states and D.C. Mega Millions uses a 5/70+1/25 system from which winning numbers are chosen. The overall chances of winning any prizes is about 1 to 14. The chances of matching 6 Mega Millions numbers are 1 to 302,575,350. The minimum Mega Millions advertised jackpot is 40 million dollar. The annuity option is paid in 30 equal yearly installments. Winners can select one-time lump sum cash payout option instead.

Contrary to other Mega Millions states, all the nine prize tiers of California Mega Millions are parimutuel, rather than non-jackpot prize having a set amount. This leads to different prize amounts for equivalent winning tickets sold in California when compared to those sold in other 43 states. One example is, the second Mega Millions prizes is a million dollar could pay the winner over $1000,000 due to the pari-mutuel payout system of California lottery. For the same reason, California state lottery does not offer Megaplier like other Mega Millions participants.
