Tuesday's Mega Millions jackpot rolls up to $184 million; One ticket won the second prize

The Mega Millions multi-state lottery jackpot built to $184 million (cash option $123.9 million) Tuesday night when there were no top prize winners in the $168 million drawing, lottery officials said. The numbers from Friday, April 2nd, 2021 drawing were 10, 42, 48, 53, 62 and the Mega Ball was 19, Megaplier was 2.
Even though the grand prize was not awarded Friday evening, Mega Millions did produce some big winners. There was a single lucky ticket matched all five lotto numbers but missed Mega Ball number, which won the second prize. The one second prize winning ticket(s) sold in won a million dollar cash each.
Other prizes won Friday night included 13 tickets that matched 4 white numbers plus the Mega Ball and won $10,000. Also, 408 tickets matched 4 of the 5 lotto numbers. Those tickets are each worth $500. 871 tickets matched 3 of the 5 lotto numbers, plus the Mega Ball number. These tickets are also each worth $200.
With 9 different prize levels, there were a total of 1,393,098 winning tickets sold across the nation in the Friday, April 2nd, 2021 drawing.
Mega Millions game can be played in 43 states and D.C. Approximately 50% of the Mega Millions sales goes back towards the players in prize winnings. Around 15% goes to retailer commissions and lottery operation expenses. About 35% total sales is used to support government services, education and charities in the participating lottery states. The chances of winning is about 1 to 14. The chances of matching 6 Mega Millions numbers are about 1 in 302 million. The minimum Mega Millions jackpot is $40 million. The annuity option is paid in 30 equal annual installments. Winners can choose one time lump-sum cash payout option instead.
Unlike other Mega Millions participants, all the nine prize tiers of California Mega Millions are parimutuel, rather than non-jackpot prize having a set amount. This leads to different prize amounts for equivalent winners sold in California when compared to those sold in other 43 states. As an example, the second Mega Millions prizes is $1,000,000 could pay the winner over $1000,000 due to the pari-mutuel payout system of California lottery. For the same reason, California state lottery doesn't have Megaplier like other Mega Millions states.
