The jackpot for Tuesday's Mega Millions drawing soars to $400,000,000

The grand prize in America's favorite Mega Millions lottery is on the move. Because nobody correctly matched all five white ball numbers plus the Mega Millions number in Friday's drawing, the jackpot will roll up to an estimated $400,000,000! The cash option stands at a projected $$185.8 million. The numbers drawn Friday night, September 12th, 2025 were 17, 18, 21, 42, 64 and the Mega Ball was 07, Megaplier was .
Even though there was no jackpot winner Friday evening, Mega Millions had some big winners. A total of 6 lucky tickets won the third prize. These included 6 tickets that matched 4 white ball numbers plus the Mega Ball and won $10,000.
In addition, 165 tickets matched 4 of the 5 lotto numbers. Those tickets are each worth $500. Other prizes won included 572 tickets that matched 3 white numbers as well as the Mega Ball and won $200.
With nine prize tiers, there were a total of 676,068 winning tickets sold nationwide in the Friday, September 12th, 2025 drawing.
Mega Millions is an U.S. popular lottery game sold in 44 member states as a shared jackpot game. About 50% of the Mega Millions sales goes back towards the players through prizes. Around 15% is used to as retailer commissions and lottery operating costs. Approximately 35% total sales is used in government services, education and charities in the participating lottery states. Mega Millions drawings occur 2 times a week every Tuesday and Friday night at 7:59 PM Pacific Time. To play Mega Millions, choose 5 numbers from 1 to 70 and select a Mega Ball number from 1 to 25. Each play costs $1. In some states, players can choose to pay $1 extra to purchase the Megaplier, which multiplies the winnings 2 to 5 times except grand prize. The overall odds of winning is about 1 to 14. The odds of matching all six Mega Millions numbers are 1 to 302,575,350. The minimum Mega Millions jackpot is $40 million. The annuity option is paid in 30 equal annual installments. Winners can choose one lump sum cash payout option instead.
In contrast to other Mega Millions states, all the 9 prize tiers of California Mega Millions are parimutuel, rather than non-jackpot prize having a fixed value. This leads to different prize amounts for equivalent winners sold in California when compared to those sold in other forty three jurisdictons. For example, the second Mega Millions prizes is $1,000,000 could pay the winner more than a million dollar due to the pari-mutuel payout system of California lottery. For the same reason, California state lottery does not have Megaplier like other Mega Millions participants.
