Mega Millions jackpot rises to $381,000,000; 1 second prize ticket sold

The Mega Millions jackpot increased since no player hit all 6 numbers from Tuesday night's $358,000,000 drawing. The next jackpot built to $381,000,000 for Friday night's drawing. The cash option stands at an estimated $$175 million. The winning numbers from Tuesday night, September 9th, 2025 were 06-43-52-64-65 with Mega Ball 22 and Megaplier x.
Though there was no grand prize winner Tuesday evening, Mega Millions did produce some big winners. There was a single ticket that matched the first five numbers and won the second prize. The 1 second prize winning ticket(s) bought in CA won $1,000,000 cash each.
Additional prizes won Tuesday evening included 4 tickets that matched 4 white numbers in addition to the Mega Ball and won $10,000. Other prizes won Tuesday night included 184 tickets that matched four white numbers and won $500. Other prizes won included 528 tickets that matched 3 white numbers as well as the Mega Ball and won $200.

Mega Millions is a consortium involving 44 state lotteries. Approximately 50% of the Mega Millions sales goes back towards the players through prize winnings. About 15% is used to as retailer commissions and lottery operating costs. Approximately 35% total sales is used in government services, education and charities in the participating lottery states. Mega Millions drawings occur every Tuesday and Friday at 7:59 p.m. Pacific Time. To play, pick 5 numbers from a set of 70 then select a Mega Ball number from 1 to 25. Each play costs $1. In some states, players can choose to pay $1 extra to purchase the Megaplier, which multiplies the winnings 2 to 5 times except jackpot. The overall odds of winning is about 1 to 14. The chances of winning Mega Millions jackpot are 1 to 302,575,350. The minimum Mega Millions advertised jackpot starts at $40,000,000. Its annuity option is paid in 30 equal yearly payments. Winners may choose one lump sum cash payout option instead.
In contrast to other Mega Millions participants, all the nine prize tiers of California Mega Millions are parimutuel, instead of non-jackpot prize having a fixed value. This results in different amounts of prize for equivalent winners sold in California when compared to those sold in other Mega Millions states. For instance, the 2nd Mega Millions prizes is $1,000,000 could pay the winner more than a million dollar due to the pari-mutuel payout system of California lottery. For the same reason, CA state lottery does not offer Megaplier like other Mega Millions participants.
