Mega Millions jackpot rises to $560,000,000 Tuesday night; One second prize ticket sold

The grand prize in America's favorite Mega Millions lottery is on the move. Because no one correctly matched all 5 white ball numbers and the Mega Millions number in Friday's drawing, the grand prize will increase to a projected $560,000,000! The cash value will be $$258.4 million. The winning numbers from Friday, May 31st, 2024 drawing were 04-11-23-33-49 and the Mega Ball was 23, Megaplier was 4.
Although there was no grand prize winner Friday evening, some players still walked away with huge prizes. There was only one ticket that matched the first five lotto numbers and won the second prize. The one second prize winning ticket(s) purchased in CA will collect a million dollar cash each.
In addition, 27 tickets matched four of the five lotto numbers, plus the Mega Ball number. Those tickets are each worth $10,000. Additional winners Friday evening included 583 tickets that matched 4 lotto numbers and won $500. Other prizes won included 1358 tickets that matched 3 white numbers plus the Mega Ball and won $200.
With nine different ways to win, there were 1,829,144 winning tickets sold across U.S. in the Friday, May 31st, 2024 drawing.
Mega Millions is an U.S. popular lottery game offered in 44 participating states as a pari-mutuel jackpot game. Approximately 50% of the Mega Millions sales goes back on the players in prize winnings. About 15% goes to retailer commissions and lottery operating costs. Around 35% total sales is used to support government services, education and charities in the member states. Mega Millions drawings are held 2 times a week every Tuesday and Friday night at 7:59 p.m. Pacific Time. To play Mega Millions, pick 5 numbers from a set of 70 and choose a Mega Ball number from 1 to 25. The minimum Mega Millions grand prize starts at $40,000,000. Its annuity option is paid in 30 equal annual payments. Winners may choose one-time lump sum cash payout option instead.
Compared with other Mega Millions participants, all the 9 prize levels of California Mega Millions are parimutuel, instead of non-jackpot prize having a fixed amount. This causes different prize amounts for equivalent winning tickets sold in California when compared to those sold in other forty three Mega Millions states. For instance, the 2nd Mega Millions prizes is $1,000,000 could pay the winner over $1000,000 due to the pari-mutuel payout system of California lottery. For the same reason, California state lottery does not have Megaplier like other Mega Millions states.
