Mega Millions jackpot breaks to $22 million; 1 second prize ticket sold

The jackpot in America's favorite Mega Millions lottery is on the move. Because no player correctly matched all six numbers in Tuesday's drawing, the grand prize will leap to a projected $22 million! The cash option stands at a projected $15 million. The numbers from Tuesday, May 25th, 2021 drawing were 14, 21, 31, 34, 54 and the Mega Ball was 11, Megaplier was 3. There was no jackpot winning ticket sold in the past 793 draws since Friday, October 4th, 2013.The last jackpot was won by one lucky ticket sold in Maryland, matched all six numbers for a $189 million top prize.
Even though the jackpot was not awarded Tuesday evening, Mega Millions did produce some big winners. There was a single lucky player that correctly matched all five lotto numbers and won the second prize. The 1 lucky ticket(s) sold in , each won $1,000,000 cash by matching all 5 white ball numbers.
Also, 12 tickets matched 4 of the 5 lotto numbers, plus the Mega Ball number. Those tickets are each worth $10,000. In addition, 244 tickets matched four of the five lotto numbers. Those tickets are each worth $500. Other prizes won included 822 tickets that matched 3 white numbers in addition to the Mega Ball and won $200.

Mega Millions is played in 43 states and D.C. It holds the record biggest jackpot in North American lottery history. About 50% of the Mega Millions sales goes back for the players in prizes. Approximately 15% goes to commission of retailers and lottery operation expenses. Approximately 35% total sales is used in government services, education and charities in the participating states. Mega Millions drawings are held every Tuesday and Friday night at 7:59 p.m. Pacific Time. Each play costs $1. In some states, players can choose to spend 1 extra dollar to purchase the Megaplier, which multiplies the winnings 2 to 5 times but not grand prize. The overall chances of winning is about 1 to 14. The odds of winning Mega Millions jackpot are 1 to 302,575,350. The minimum Mega Millions grand prize starts at $40,000,000. The annuity option is paid in 30 equal annual installments. Winners can select one time lump sum cash payout option instead.
Compared with other Mega Millions participants, all the nine prize tiers of California Mega Millions are parimutuel, instead of non-jackpot prize having a fixed value. This leads to different prize amounts for equivalent winners sold in California when compared to those sold in other forty three lotteries. For example, the 2nd Mega Millions prizes is a million dollar could pay the winner over $1000,000 due to the pari-mutuel payout system of California lottery. For the same reason, California state lottery does not have Megaplier like other Mega Millions states.
