Friday's Mega Millions jackpot increases to $453,000,000; 1 ticket won the second prize

The lottery official announced that the Tuesday, May 21st, 2024, Mega Millions drawing resulted in a roll-over, producing an $453,000,000 jackpot for the next drawing Friday. The cash option will be an estimated $$211.3 million up for grab. The numbers from Tuesday, May 21st, 2024 drawing were 02-05-08-28-69 with Mega Ball number 14 and Megaplier X2. The Mega Millions jackpot has been rolling over for sixteen draws since Friday, March 29th, 2024.The last jackpot was won by a lucky ticket sold in NJ, matched all six numbers for a $0 million top prize.
Even though the grand prize was not awarded Tuesday evening, Mega Millions did produce some big winners. There was a sole 2nd prize winning ticket from Tuesday night's Mega Millions drawing, matching all five white ball numbers but not the Mega Ball number. The 1 second prize winning ticket(s) sold in CA will collect a million dollar cash each.
Additional major winners Tuesday evening included 23 tickets that matched 4 white ball numbers as well as the Mega Ball and won $10,000. In addition, 622 tickets matched four of the five lotto numbers. Those tickets are each worth $500. 1333 tickets matched three of the five lotto numbers, as well as the Mega Ball number. These tickets are also each worth $200.

The annuity option is paid in 30 equal annual installments. Winners may choose one-time lump sum cash payout instead.
Contrary to other Mega Millions states, all the nine prize tiers of California Mega Millions are parimutuel, as opposed to non-jackpot prize having a set amount. This results in different prize amounts for equivalent winners sold in the state of California when compared to those sold in other forty three lotteries. As an example, the second Mega Millions prizes is a million dollar could pay the winner more than a million dollar due to the pari-mutuel payout system of California lottery. For the same reason, California state lottery doesn't offer Megaplier like other Mega Millions states.
