Friday's Mega Millions jackpot increases to $430 million; 2 second prize tickets sold

There were no tickets sold with all 5 lotto numbers and the Mega Ball number in the last multi-state Mega Millions game draw, and the estimated grand prize for Friday's drawing will roll up to $430 million, lottery officials announced. The cash value will be an estimated $291.1 million. The numbers from Tuesday, May 11th, 2021 drawing were 07-08-20-36-39 and the Mega Ball was 22, Megaplier was 3. There was no jackpot winning ticket sold in the past 789 draws since Friday, October 4th, 2013.The last jackpot was won by a lucky ticket sold in Maryland, matched all six numbers for a $189 million top prize.
Although there was no jackpot winner Tuesday evening, Mega Millions did produce some big winners. There were 2 second prize winners from Tuesday night's drawing, matching the first five numbers except the Mega Ball number. The 2 second prize winning ticket(s) purchased in won $1,000,000 cash each.
Other prizes won Tuesday evening included 25 tickets that matched 4 white ball numbers as well as the Mega Ball and won $10,000. In addition, 707 tickets matched four of the five lotto numbers. Those tickets are each worth $500. There were 1785 tickets that matched 3 white ball numbers plus the Mega Ball and also won $200.
With nine different prize levels, there were a total of 2,448,876 winning tickets sold across the nation in the Tuesday, May 11th, 2021 drawing.
Mega Millions is a consortium involving 44 state lotteries. Mega Millions drawings are held 2 times a week every Tuesday and Friday night at 7:59 PM Pacific Time. Each play costs $1. In some states, players can choose to pay 1 extra dollar to purchase the Megaplier, which multiplies the original prizes 2 to 5 times but not jackpot. The overall chances of winning any prizes is about 1 to 14. The odds of matching all six Mega Millions numbers are about 1 in 302 million. The minimum Mega Millions advertised grand prize is 40 million dollar. Its annuity option is paid in 30 equal yearly payments. Winners may select one lump sum cash payout option instead.
Contrary to other Mega Millions states, all the 9 prize levels of California Mega Millions are pari-mutuel, instead of non-jackpot prize having a fixed value. This leads to different amounts of prize for equivalent winners sold in the state of California when compared to those sold in other forty three states. For instance, the second Mega Millions prizes is a million dollar could pay the winner more than a million dollar due to the pari-mutuel payout system of California lottery. For the same reason, CA state lottery doesn't have Megaplier like other Mega Millions states.
