Friday's Mega Millions jackpot goes to $215,000,000; One second prize ticket sold

There has been another rollover in the grand prize for the multistate Mega Millions - to $215,000,000. The cash value will be $$95.2 million. The jackpot grew since no player hit all five lotto numbers and the Mega Ball number from Tuesday night's $195,000,000 drawing. The winning numbers from Tuesday night, May 5th, 2026 were 12, 22, 50, 51, 55 with Mega Ball number 10 and Megaplier .
Though the jackpot was not awarded Tuesday evening, Mega Millions had some big winners. There was a single lucky winner correctly matched all five numbers but missed Mega Ball number, which won the 2nd prize. The one second prize winning ticket(s) bought in won a million dollar cash each.
Other prizes won Tuesday night included 9 tickets that matched 4 white numbers together with Mega Ball and won $10,000. Additional prizes won Tuesday night included 150 tickets that matched four white ball numbers and won $500. 377 tickets matched three of the five lotto numbers, plus the Mega Ball number. These tickets are also each worth $200.
With nine prize levels, there were a total of 485,118 winning tickets sold across U.S. in the Tuesday, May 5th, 2026 drawing.
Mega Millions lottery can be played in 43 states and D.C. Approximately 50% of the Mega Millions sales goes back for the players in prizes. Approximately 15% is used to as retailer commissions and lottery operation expenses. Around 35% total sales is used to support government services, education and charities in the member lottery states. Mega Millions drawings occur 2 times a week every Tuesday and Friday at 7:59 p.m. Pacific Time. Each play costs $1. In some states, players can choose to spend $1 extra to buy the Megaplier, which multiplies the original prizes 2 to 5 times but not jackpot. The minimum Mega Millions advertised grand prize starts at $40,000,000. Its annuity option is paid in 30 equal yearly payments. Winners may select one-time lump sum cash payout option instead.
As opposed to other Mega Millions participants, all the nine prize tiers of California Mega Millions are pari-mutuel, rather than non-jackpot prize having a fixed value. This leads to different amounts of prize for equivalent winning tickets sold in California when compared to those sold in other forty three states. By way of example, the second Mega Millions prizes is $1,000,000 could pay the winner over $1000,000 due to the pari-mutuel payout system of California lottery. For the same reason, CA state lottery doesn't offer Megaplier like other Mega Millions participants.
