No jackpot ticket sold. Mega Millions jackpot builds to $79 million Friday night

The grand prize in America's favorite Mega Millions lottery is on the move. Because nobody correctly hit all 6 numbers in Tuesday's drawing, the grand prize will rise to a projected $79 million! The cash option stands at a projected $54.4 million. The numbers from Tuesday, March 9th, 2021 drawing were 04-33-46-58-65 with Mega Ball number 13 and Megaplier 2.
Though the jackpot was not hit Tuesday evening, Mega Millions did produce some big winners. A total of 9 lucky players won the third prize. Among them, 9 tickets matched four of the five lotto numbers, plus the Mega Ball number. Those tickets are each worth $10,000.
In addition, 214 tickets matched 4 of the 5 lotto numbers. Those tickets are each worth $500. There were 675 tickets that matched 3 white ball numbers as well as the Mega Ball and also won $200.
With nine different prize tiers, there were 1,189,104 winning tickets sold nationwide in the Tuesday, March 9th, 2021 drawing.
Mega Millions game is played in 43 states and Washington DC. It holds the record highest jackpot of $656 million in United States lottery history. Around 50% of the Mega Millions sales goes back on the players in prize winnings. Roughly 15% goes to retailer commissions and lottery operating costs. Each play costs $1. In some states, players can choose to spend $1 extra to purchase the Megaplier, which multiplies the prizes 2 to 5 times but not grand prize. The minimum Mega Millions advertised grand prize is $40 million. The annuity option is paid in 30 equal annual payments. Winners can select one time lump-sum cash payout instead.
Compared with other Mega Millions participants, all the nine prize levels of California Mega Millions are pari-mutuel, instead of non-jackpot prize having a set amount. This leads to different prize amounts for equivalent winners sold in California when compared to those sold in other Mega Millions states. By way of example, the 2nd Mega Millions prizes is a million dollar could pay the winner over $1000,000 due to the pari-mutuel payout system of California lottery. For the same reason, CA state lottery doesn't offer Megaplier like other Mega Millions states.
