Massive Mega Millions jackpot up for grabs Friday night

There has been another rollover in the grand prize for the multistate Mega Millions - to $687,000,000. The cash option will be a projected $$332.3 million up for grab. The jackpot grew because nobody hit all 6 numbers from Tuesday night's $650,000,000 drawing. The winning numbers drawn Tuesday night, March 5th, 2024 were 02-49-50-61-70 with Mega Ball number 14 and Megaplier x2.
While the grand prize was not hit Tuesday evening, Mega Millions did produce some big winners. There were two 2nd prize winning tickets from Tuesday night's drawing, matching all 5 white ball numbers except the Mega Ball number. The two second prize winning ticket(s) bought in CA,MI won a million dollar cash each.
Additional prizes won Tuesday evening included 19 tickets that matched 4 white ball numbers as well as the Mega Ball and won $10,000. Additional winners Tuesday evening included 538 tickets that matched four white ball numbers and won $500. 1444 tickets matched 3 of the 5 lotto numbers, plus the Mega Ball number. These tickets are also each worth $200.
With nine ways to win, there were a total of 2,348,990 winning tickets sold across U.S. in the Tuesday, March 5th, 2024 drawing.
Mega Millions game can be played in 43 states and D.C. Each play costs $1. In some states, players can choose to pay 1 extra dollar to buy the Megaplier, which multiplies the winnings 2 to 5 times except grand prize. The minimum Mega Millions advertised grand prize starts at $40,000,000. The annuity option is paid in 30 equal yearly payments. Winners can choose one time lump-sum cash payout option instead.
As opposed to other Mega Millions participants, all the 9 prize levels of California Mega Millions are parimutuel, instead of non-jackpot prize having a fixed amount. This causes different amounts of prize for equivalent winning tickets sold in California when compared to those sold in other forty three Mega Millions states. For instance, the 2nd Mega Millions prizes is a million dollar could pay the winner over $1000,000 due to the pari-mutuel payout system of California lottery. For the same reason, California state lottery doesn't have Megaplier like other Mega Millions participants.
