The grand prize in America's favorite Mega Millions lottery is on the move. Because no one correctly hit all six numbers in Friday's drawing, the grand prize will go to an estimated $137,000,000! The cash option will be an estimated $$64.5 million up for grab. The numbers from Friday night, June 28th, 2024 were 28, 31, 33, 42, 66 with Mega Ball 24 and Megaplier 3.
Even though the grand prize was not awarded Friday evening, Mega Millions did produce some big winners. 5 third prize winning tickets were sold across the nation. Among them, 5 tickets matched four of the five lotto numbers, plus the Mega Ball number. Those tickets are each worth $10,000.
Additional prizes won Friday evening included 225 tickets that matched 4 white numbers and won $500. Other prizes won included 650 tickets that matched 3 white numbers plus the Mega Ball and won $200.
With nine different prize tiers, there were a total of 963,856 winning tickets sold across the nation in the Friday, June 28th, 2024 drawing.
Mega Millions is an U.S. popular lottery game offered in 44 participating states as a pari-mutuel jackpot game. On average, 50% of the Mega Millions sales goes back on the players in prize winnings. About 15% goes to commission of retailers and lottery operating costs. Roughly 35% total sales is used in government services, education and charities in the member states. Mega Millions drawings are held 2 times a week every Tuesday and Friday at 7:59 PM Pacific Time. The odds of winning is about 1 to 14. The chances of winning Mega Millions jackpot are 1 to 302,575,350. The minimum Mega Millions grand prize starts at $40,000,000. Its annuity option is paid in 30 equal yearly payments. Winners may choose one time lump sum cash payout instead.
In contrast to other Mega Millions states, all the 9 prize tiers of California Mega Millions are pari-mutuel, instead of non-jackpot prize having a fixed value. This leads to different amounts of prize for equivalent winning tickets sold in the state of California when compared to those sold in other 43 states. As an example, the 2nd Mega Millions prizes is $1,000,000 could pay the winner over $1000,000 due to the pari-mutuel payout system of California lottery. For the same reason, California state lottery does not have Megaplier like other Mega Millions states.
