Friday's Mega Millions jackpot leaps to $47,000,000; 4 players matched the first 5 numbers

Wall Street is not the only place where fortunes are made and lost these days. One fortune will be up for grabs on Friday, when Mega Millions has $47,000,000 on the line. The lump-sum cash payout stands at an estimated $$21.8 million. Mega Millions' jackpot went up because nobody matched all six numbers drawn Tuesday night. The winning numbers from Tuesday night, June 11th, 2024 were 01, 05, 07, 22, 24 and the Mega Ball was 08, Megaplier was 4.
Even though there was no grand prize winner Tuesday evening, some players still walked away with huge pile of cash. There were 4 lucky players that matched the first 5 lotto numbers and won the 2nd prize. The 4 second prize winning ticket(s) purchased in GA,MA,NY,PA won $1,000,000 cash each.
Also, 18 tickets matched 4 of the 5 lotto numbers, plus the Mega Ball number. Those tickets are each worth $10,000. Additional prizes won Tuesday night included 501 tickets that matched 4 lotto numbers and won $500. Mega Millions is a consortium associated with 44 state lotteries. About 50% of the Mega Millions sales goes back towards the players in prize winnings. Roughly 15% goes to commission of retailers and lottery operation expenses. Roughly 35% total sales is used to support government services, education and charities in the participating lottery states. Mega Millions drawings are held every Tuesday and Friday night at 7:59 PM Pacific Time. The minimum Mega Millions jackpot is $40 million. The annuity option is paid in 30 equal yearly installments. Winners may choose one-time lump sum cash payout instead.
Compared with other Mega Millions participants, all the 9 prize tiers of California Mega Millions are pari-mutuel, as opposed to non-jackpot prize having a fixed value. This results in different prize amounts for equivalent winning tickets sold in California when compared to those sold in other forty three lotteries. By way of example, the second Mega Millions prizes is $1,000,000 could pay the winner more than a million dollar due to the pari-mutuel payout system of California lottery. For the same reason, California state lottery doesn't offer Megaplier like other Mega Millions participants.
