The jackpot for Friday's Mega Millions drawing skyrockets to $358,000,000

No one won Tuesday night's Mega Millions game drawing, worth $331,000,000, bringing the projected jackpot on Friday to $358,000,000. The lump-sum cash payout stands at a projected $$169.7 million. The winning numbers from Tuesday night, July 30th, 2024 were 19, 23, 30, 33, 50 and the Mega Ball was 25, Megaplier was 2.
Though there was no grand prize winner Tuesday evening, Mega Millions did produce some big winners. There were two lucky winners matched all 5 numbers but missed Mega Ball number, which won the 2nd prize. The two second prize winning ticket(s) purchased in IL,TX won $1,000,000 cash each.
Additional prizes won Tuesday evening included 16 tickets that matched 4 white numbers in addition to the Mega Ball and won $10,000. Other prizes won Tuesday night included 338 tickets that matched 4 white numbers and won $500. Other prizes won included 1001 tickets that matched 3 white numbers as well as the Mega Ball and won $200.
With 9 ways to win, there were a total of 1,398,202 winning tickets sold nationwide in the Tuesday, July 30th, 2024 drawing.
Mega Millions is a consortium associated with 44 state lotteries. It holds the record highest jackpot of $656 million in U.S. lottery history. Roughly 50% of the Mega Millions sales goes back towards the players in prizes. About 15% is used to as retailer commissions and lottery operation expenses. About 35% total sales is used in government services, education and charities in the participating states. Mega Millions drawings are held every Tuesday and Friday at 7:59 p.m. Pacific Time. The odds of winning any prizes is about 1 to 14. The odds of matching 6 Mega Millions numbers are 1 to 302,575,350. The minimum Mega Millions grand prize is 40 million dollar. The annuity option is paid in 30 equal annual installments. Winners may select one time lump-sum cash payout option instead.
Compared with other Mega Millions participants, all the nine prize levels of California Mega Millions are parimutuel, instead of non-jackpot prize having a set amount. This results in different amounts of prize for equivalent winning tickets sold in California when compared to those sold in other jurisdictons. For example, the second Mega Millions prizes is $1,000,000 could pay the winner more than a million dollar due to the pari-mutuel payout system of California lottery. For the same reason, California state lottery does not have Megaplier like other Mega Millions participants.
