Friday's Mega Millions jackpot rises to $166 million; Three tickets matched the first five numbers

The grand prize in the Mega Millions multistate lottery game continues rising up and will be up to an estimated $166 million for the upcoming drawing on Friday. The cash option will be $120.4 million. The amount was rolled over because nobody hit all 5 lotto numbers plus the Mega Ball number to win the $153 million grand prize Tuesday night. The numbers from Tuesday night, July 27th, 2021 were 02-35-36-54-64 and the Mega Ball was 11, Megaplier was 3. There was no jackpot winning ticket sold in the past 811 draws since Friday, October 4th, 2013.The last jackpot was won by a lucky ticket sold in Maryland, matched all six numbers for a $189 million top prize.
While there was no grand prize winner Tuesday evening, Mega Millions did produce some big winners. There were three lucky players that correctly matched all five numbers and won the 2nd prize. The three lucky ticket(s) purchased in , each won one million dollar cash by matching all 5 white ball numbers.
Other prizes won Tuesday evening included 15 tickets that matched four white ball numbers plus the Mega Ball and won $10,000. Mega Millions lottery is played in 43 states and D.C. It holds the record highest jackpot of $656 million in United States lottery history. Roughly 50% of the Mega Millions sales goes back towards the players through prizes. Roughly 15% is used to as commission of retailers and lottery operating costs. Mega Millions game uses a 5/70 (white balls) + 1/25 (Mega Balls) matrix to randomly choose winning numbers. Each play costs $1. In some states, players can choose to spend $1 extra to buy the Megaplier, which multiplies the original winnings 2 to 5 times but not jackpot. The minimum Mega Millions advertised jackpot starts at $40,000,000. The annuity option is paid in 30 equal annual payments. Winners can select one time lump-sum cash payout option instead.
Contrary to other Mega Millions participants, all the nine prize levels of California Mega Millions are parimutuel, as opposed to non-jackpot prize having a fixed amount. This results in different amounts of prize for equivalent winners sold in the state of California when compared to those sold in other 43 states. Such as, the 2nd Mega Millions prizes is a million dollar could pay the winner more than a million dollar due to the pari-mutuel payout system of California lottery. For the same reason, CA state lottery doesn't offer Megaplier like other Mega Millions participants.
