Mega Millions jackpot builds to $279,000,000 Tuesday; 3 players matched the first 5 numbers

The Mega Millions grand prize has been pumped up to an estimated $279,000,000 (lump-sum cash payout $$131.1 million) for the next drawing in the multistate lottery game Tuesday night. The jackpot amount has been carried over since no one matched all 6 winning numbers to take the $251,000,000 grand prize Friday night. The winning numbers from Friday, July 19th, 2024 drawing were 10-17-23-50-67 with Mega Ball 03 and Megaplier x3. The Mega Millions jackpot has been rolling over for 13 draws since Friday, June 7th, 2024.The last jackpot was won by a single ticket sold in IL, matched all six numbers for a $560 million top prize.
Although there was no jackpot winner Friday evening, Mega Millions did produce some big winners. There were 3 lucky players that correctly matched all five white ball numbers and won the 2nd prize. The 3 second prize winning ticket(s) sold in CA,MD,VA won $1,000,000 cash each.
In addition, 10 tickets matched four of the five lotto numbers, plus the Mega Ball number. Those tickets are each worth $10,000. Other winners Friday night included 287 tickets that matched 4 lotto numbers and won $500. There were 927 tickets that matched three white ball numbers as well as the Mega Ball and also won $200.
With nine prize tiers, there were 1,335,922 winning tickets sold across U.S. in the Friday, July 19th, 2024 drawing.
Mega Millions is a consortium involving 44 state lotteries. Each play costs $1. In some states, players can choose to pay 1 extra dollar to buy the Megaplier, which multiplies the prizes 2 to 5 times except jackpot. The minimum Mega Millions jackpot starts at $40,000,000. Its annuity option is paid in 30 equal annual installments. Winners can choose one time lump sum cash payout option instead.
Compared with other Mega Millions states, all the nine prize tiers of California Mega Millions are pari-mutuel, as opposed to non-jackpot prize having a fixed amount. This results in different prize amounts for equivalent winning tickets sold in the state of California when compared to those sold in other 43 Mega Millions states. By way of example, the second Mega Millions prizes is a million dollar could pay the winner over $1000,000 due to the pari-mutuel payout system of California lottery. For the same reason, California state lottery doesn't offer Megaplier like other Mega Millions states.
