Mega Millions jackpot increases to $82 million Tuesday night; 2 tickets matched the first 5 numbers

Wall Street is not the only place where fortunes are made and lost these days. One fortune is going to be up for grabs on Tuesday, when Mega Millions has $82 million on the line. The cash value will be a projected $57.7 million up for grab. Mega Millions' jackpot increased since nobody matched all five white ball numbers plus the Mega Ball number drawn Friday night. The winning numbers drawn Friday night, July 2nd, 2021 were 08-31-32-34-45 and the Mega Ball was 19, Megaplier was 2.
Even though the grand prize was not hit Friday evening, some people still walked away with huge prizes. There were 2 lucky players that correctly matched the first five white ball numbers and won the 2nd prize. The 2 lucky ticket(s) purchased in , each won one million dollar cash by matching all 5 white ball numbers.
Additional prizes won Friday evening included 8 tickets that matched 4 white numbers as well as the Mega Ball and won $10,000. Mega Millions lottery is played in 43 states and Washington DC. Approximately 50% of the Mega Millions sales goes back towards the players in prizes. Roughly 15% goes to commission of retailers and lottery operating costs. About 35% total sales is used to support government services, education and charities in the participating states. Mega Millions drawings occur every Tuesday and Friday night at 7:59 PM Pacific Time. Mega Millions uses a 5/70+1/25 system to randomly choose winning numbers. Each play costs $1. In some states, players can choose to spend $1 extra to buy the Megaplier option, which multiplies the winnings 2 to 5 times except jackpot. The minimum Mega Millions grand prize is 40 million dollar. Its annuity option is paid in 30 equal annual installments. Winners can choose one-time lump sum cash payout instead.
Compared with other Mega Millions participants, all the 9 prize tiers of California Mega Millions are pari-mutuel, rather than non-jackpot prize having a fixed value. This leads to different amounts of prize for equivalent winning tickets sold in California when compared to those sold in other 43 Mega Millions states. One example is, the 2nd Mega Millions prizes is a million dollar could pay the winner over $1000,000 due to the pari-mutuel payout system of California lottery. For the same reason, California state lottery doesn't have Megaplier like other Mega Millions states.
