Tuesday's Mega Millions jackpot moves to $42 million; 1 second prize ticket sold

Without a jackpot winner in the last drawing, the Mega Millions multistate lottery game has rolled over the grand prize to $42 million for Tuesday night's drawing. The lump-sum cash payout will be a projected $31 million up for grab. No player matched all 6 winning numbers to win the $25 million jackpot Friday. The next Mega Millions drawing will be at 10:59 PM Tuesday night. The winning numbers from Friday, January 29th, 2021 drawing were 04, 44, 58, 59, 70 and the Mega Ball was 03, Megaplier was 3.
Although the grand prize was not awarded Friday evening, Mega Millions had some huge winners. There was only one lucky ticket matched the first 5 numbers but missed Mega Ball number, which won the second prize. The 1 lucky ticket(s) purchased in , each won $1,000,000 cash by matching all 5 white ball numbers.
Additional major winners Friday evening included 11 tickets that matched 4 white ball numbers plus the Mega Ball and won $10,000. Other prizes won Friday evening included 275 tickets that matched four lotto numbers and won $500. 815 tickets matched 3 of the 5 lotto numbers, plus the Mega Ball number. These tickets are also each worth $200.
With nine different ways to win, there were a total of 1,388,454 winning tickets sold nationwide in the Friday, January 29th, 2021 drawing.
Mega Millions is a consortium of 44 state lotteries. Around 50% of the Mega Millions sales goes back on the players in prizes. About 15% goes to commission of retailers and lottery operating costs. Approximately 35% total sales is used in government services, education and charities in the participating states. Mega Millions lottery uses a 5/70+1/25 system from which winning numbers are chosen. Each play costs $1. In some states, players can choose to pay $1 extra to buy the Megaplier, which multiplies the original prizes 2 to 5 times but not jackpot. The minimum Mega Millions jackpot is $40 million. The annuity option is paid in 30 equal annual payments. Winners may select one lump sum cash payout option instead.
Not like other Mega Millions states, all the 9 prize tiers of California Mega Millions are pari-mutuel, rather than non-jackpot prize having a set amount. This leads to different amounts of prize for equivalent winners sold in California when compared to those sold in other jurisdictons. Such as, the second Mega Millions prizes is a million dollar could pay the winner more than a million dollar due to the pari-mutuel payout system of California lottery. For the same reason, California state lottery does not have Megaplier like other Mega Millions states.
