No jackpot ticket sold last night. Tuesday's Mega Millions jackpot increases to $62,000,000

Nobody won Friday night's Mega Millions lottery drawing, worth $42,000,000, bringing the projected jackpot on Tuesday to $62,000,000. The cash option will be a projected $$27.7 million up for grab. The winning numbers from Friday, January 3rd, 2025 drawing were 20-42-46-59-69 with Mega Ball 19 and Megaplier X4.
Although there was no jackpot winner Friday evening, some players still walked away with huge prizes. A total of 4 lucky players won the 3rd prize. These included 4 tickets that matched 4 white numbers as well as the Mega Ball and won $10,000.
Other prizes won Friday evening included 165 tickets that matched four white numbers and won $500. 446 tickets matched 3 of the 5 lotto numbers, plus the Mega Ball number. These tickets are also each worth $200.
With nine prize tiers, there were a total of 823,200 winning tickets sold across the nation in the Friday, January 3rd, 2025 drawing.
Mega Millions can be played in 43 states and D.C. On average, 50% of the Mega Millions sales goes back to the players through prize winnings. Around 15% is used to as commission of retailers and lottery operation expenses. Approximately 35% total sales is used to support government services, education and charities in the member lottery states. Mega Millions drawings occur 2 times a week every Tuesday and Friday at 7:59 p.m. Pacific Time. Mega Millions lottery uses a 5/70 (white balls) + 1/25 (Mega Balls) matrix to randomly choose winning numbers. The odds of winning is about 1 to 14. The odds of matching all six Mega Millions numbers are about 1 in 302 million. The minimum Mega Millions advertised jackpot starts at $40,000,000. Its annuity option is paid in 30 equal yearly payments. Winners can choose one lump-sum cash payout instead.
Contrary to other Mega Millions participants, all the nine prize tiers of California Mega Millions are pari-mutuel, rather than non-jackpot prize having a set amount. This leads to different prize amounts for equivalent winning tickets sold in the state of California when compared to those sold in other states. For instance, the 2nd Mega Millions prizes is a million dollar could pay the winner over $1000,000 due to the pari-mutuel payout system of California lottery. For the same reason, California state lottery doesn't have Megaplier like other Mega Millions participants.
