Friday's Mega Millions jackpot breaks to $82 million; 1 ticket won the second prize

The Mega Millions multi-state lottery grand prize built to $82 million (cash option $59.9 million) Friday night when there were no jackpot winners in the $68 million drawing, lottery officials said. The numbers drawn Tuesday night, February 9th, 2021 were 07, 18, 21, 31, 40 with Mega Ball 09 and Megaplier 4. Nobody won the Mega Millions jackpot in the past 763 draws since Friday, October 4th, 2013.The last jackpot was won by one lucky ticket sold in Maryland, matched all six numbers for a $189 million top prize.
While the grand prize was not hit Tuesday evening, some people still walked away with big money. There was a single lucky player that matched all 5 white ball numbers and won the 2nd prize. The 1 second prize winning ticket(s) purchased in won $1,000,000 cash each.
In addition, 25 tickets matched 4 of the 5 lotto numbers, as well as the Mega Ball number. Those tickets are each worth $10,000. In addition, 443 tickets matched four of the five lotto numbers. Those tickets are each worth $500. 1238 tickets matched three of the five lotto numbers, plus the Mega Ball number. These tickets are also each worth $200.
With nine different prize levels, there were a total of 1,386,706 winning tickets sold nationwide in the Tuesday, February 9th, 2021 drawing.
Mega Millions lottery is played in 43 states and D.C. It holds the record highest jackpot of $656 million in North American lottery history. The minimum Mega Millions advertised jackpot is 40 million dollar. The annuity option is paid in 30 equal yearly installments. Winners can select one time lump-sum cash payout option instead.
Not like other Mega Millions states, all the nine prize levels of California Mega Millions are parimutuel, instead of non-jackpot prize having a fixed amount. This results in different prize amounts for equivalent winning tickets sold in the state of California when compared to those sold in other forty three lotteries. Such as, the 2nd Mega Millions prizes is $1,000,000 could pay the winner over $1000,000 due to the pari-mutuel payout system of California lottery. For the same reason, CA state lottery does not offer Megaplier like other Mega Millions states.
