No one hit the jackpot last night. Friday's Mega Millions jackpot leaps to $57,000,000

With no winner in the last drawing, the Mega Millions lottery jackpot is going to be worth $57,000,000 (lump-sum cash payout $$28.4 million) the next time the multistate lottery is played on Friday. The amount carried over because no one hit all 5 lotto numbers plus the Mega Ball number to win the $41,000,000 grand prize Tuesday night. The winning numbers from Tuesday, December 19th, 2023 drawing were 17-26-50-58-61 and the Mega Ball was 11, Megaplier was 3.
While the jackpot was not hit Tuesday evening, some players still walked away with huge pile of cash. There were a total of 1 third prize winners. These included 1 tickets that matched 4 white numbers plus the Mega Ball and won $10,000.
Additional prizes won Tuesday night included 142 tickets that matched 4 lotto numbers and won $500. 485 tickets matched three of the five lotto numbers, plus the Mega Ball number. These tickets are also each worth $200.

Mega Millions is one of the most popular lottery games in the U.S. sold in 44 member states as a pari-mutuel jackpot game. Approximately 50% of the Mega Millions sales goes back towards the players through prize winnings. Around 15% goes to commission of retailers and lottery operation expenses. Roughly 35% total sales is used to support government services, education and charities in the participating states. Mega Millions uses a 5/70 (white balls) + 1/25 (Mega Balls) matrix to randomly pick winning numbers. Each play costs $1. In some states, players can choose to pay 1 extra dollar to purchase the Megaplier option, which multiplies the original prizes 2 to 5 times but not jackpot. The chances of winning is about 1 to 14. The chances of matching 6 Mega Millions numbers are about 1 in 302 million. The minimum Mega Millions advertised grand prize starts at $40,000,000. Its annuity option is paid in 30 equal yearly installments. Winners may select one lump sum cash payout option instead.
As opposed to other Mega Millions participants, all the nine prize levels of California Mega Millions are parimutuel, rather than non-jackpot prize having a set amount. This leads to different prize amounts for equivalent winners sold in the state of California when compared to those sold in other Mega Millions states. For example, the second Mega Millions prizes is $1,000,000 could pay the winner more than a million dollar due to the pari-mutuel payout system of California lottery. For the same reason, CA state lottery doesn't offer Megaplier like other Mega Millions participants.
