The multi-state Mega Millions jackpot has increased to a projected $41,000,000 dollars after there was no jackpot winner in Friday's drawing. The lump-sum cash payout will be an estimated $$20.4 million. The numbers from Friday night, December 15th, 2023 were 10, 20, 28, 40, 54 and the Mega Ball was 12, Megaplier was 2.
Though the jackpot was not awarded Friday evening, Mega Millions did produce some big winners. A total of 5 lucky players won the third prize. Among them, 5 tickets matched four of the five lotto numbers, plus the Mega Ball number. Those tickets are each worth $10,000.
Also, 184 tickets matched four of the five lotto numbers. Those tickets are each worth $500. 582 tickets matched three of the five lotto numbers, plus the Mega Ball number. These tickets are also each worth $200.
With 9 ways to win, there were 839,478 winning tickets sold across the nation in the Friday, December 15th, 2023 drawing.
Mega Millions is a consortium of 44 state lotteries. It holds the record highest jackpot in U.S. lottery history. Mega Millions drawings are held 2 times a week every Tuesday and Friday at 7:59 p.m. Pacific Time. To play, choose 5 numbers from 1 to 70 and select a Mega Ball number from a set of 25. Each play costs $1. In some states, players can choose to pay 1 extra dollar to buy the Megaplier option, which multiplies the original winnings 2 to 5 times except grand prize. The overall chances of winning any prizes is about 1 to 14. The odds of matching 6 Mega Millions numbers are 1 to 302,575,350. The minimum Mega Millions jackpot starts at 40 million dollar. The annuity option is paid in 30 equal annual payments. Winners can choose one lump sum cash payout instead.
In contrast to other Mega Millions participants, all the nine prize levels of California Mega Millions are pari-mutuel, instead of non-jackpot prize having a fixed amount. This leads to different amounts of prize for equivalent winning tickets sold in California when compared to those sold in other forty three Mega Millions states. One example is, the second Mega Millions prizes is a million dollar could pay the winner over $1000,000 due to the pari-mutuel payout system of California lottery. For the same reason, California state lottery does not have Megaplier like other Mega Millions states.
