The Mega Millions jackpot has jumped up to $80,000,000 (cash option $$36.2 million) for the next drawing in the multistate lottery game Tuesday night. The jackpot amount has been carried over since no player matched all 6 numbers to take the $70,000,000 jackpot Friday night. The winning numbers from Friday, December 12th, 2025 drawing were 10, 50, 55, 58, 59 with Mega Ball 05 and Megaplier .
Though the jackpot was not hit Friday evening, some people still walked away with huge pile of cash. A total of 6 lucky players won the 3rd prize. Among them, 6 tickets matched four of the five lotto numbers, plus the Mega Ball number. Those tickets are each worth $10,000.
Other prizes won Friday evening included 114 tickets that matched 4 white numbers and won $500. There were 315 tickets that correctly matched 3 white ball numbers plus the Mega Ball and also won $200.
With nine different prize levels, there were 480,474 winning tickets sold across U.S. in the Friday, December 12th, 2025 drawing.
Mega Millions is a consortium involving 44 state lotteries. It holds the record biggest jackpot in United States lottery history. Approximately 50% of the Mega Millions sales goes back on the players in prize winnings. About 15% is used to as retailer commissions and lottery operation expenses. Approximately 35% total sales is used in government services, education and charities in the member lottery states. Mega Millions drawings occur every Tuesday and Friday night at 7:59 PM Pacific Time. To play, select 5 numbers from 1 to 70 and pick 1 Mega Ball number from a set of 25. The minimum Mega Millions advertised grand prize is $40 million. The annuity option is paid in 30 equal yearly payments. Winners can select one time lump-sum cash payout option instead.
Contrary to other Mega Millions states, all the 9 prize levels of California Mega Millions are pari-mutuel, instead of non-jackpot prize having a set amount. This causes different amounts of prize for equivalent winners sold in California when compared to those sold in other forty three lotteries. Such as, the second Mega Millions prizes is a million dollar could pay the winner more than a million dollar due to the pari-mutuel payout system of California lottery. For the same reason, CA state lottery doesn't offer Megaplier like other Mega Millions participants.
