Friday's Mega Millions jackpot climbs to $28,000,000; One second prize ticket sold

Wall Street is not the only place where fortunes are made and lost these days. One fortune is going to be up for grabs on Friday, when Mega Millions game has $28,000,000 on the line. The cash option will be $$13.3 million. Mega Millions' grand prize went up since nobody hit all 5 white ball numbers plus the Mega Ball number drawn Tuesday night. The winning numbers from Tuesday, December 12th, 2023 drawing were 08, 23, 44, 45, 53 with Mega Ball number 03 and Megaplier X4.
Though there was no jackpot winner Tuesday evening, some people still walked away with big money. There was a sole second prize winner from Tuesday night's Mega Millions drawing, matching the first five white ball numbers but not the Mega Ball number. The one lucky ticket(s) bought in CA, each won one million dollar cash by matching all 5 white ball numbers.
Also, 11 tickets matched 4 of the 5 lotto numbers, plus the Mega Ball number. Those tickets are each worth $10,000. Additional winners Tuesday evening included 163 tickets that matched four lotto numbers and won $500. Other prizes won included 482 tickets that matched 3 white numbers together with Mega Ball and won $200.
With nine prize levels, there were 793,616 winning tickets sold nationwide in the Tuesday, December 12th, 2023 drawing.
Mega Millions is a consortium of 44 state lotteries. Mega Millions game uses a 5/70 (white balls) + 1/25 (Mega Balls) system from which winning numbers are chosen. The chances of winning is about 1 to 14. The chances of winning Mega Millions grand prize are about 1 in 302 million. The minimum Mega Millions advertised grand prize is 40 million dollar. The annuity option is paid in 30 equal annual installments. Winners may select one lump sum cash payout option instead.
Contrary to other Mega Millions participants, all the 9 prize levels of California Mega Millions are parimutuel, as opposed to non-jackpot prize having a set amount. This results in different amounts of prize for equivalent winners sold in the state of California when compared to those sold in other 43 jurisdictons. Such as, the 2nd Mega Millions prizes is a million dollar could pay the winner over $1000,000 due to the pari-mutuel payout system of California lottery. For the same reason, California state lottery doesn't have Megaplier like other Mega Millions participants.
