The jackpot for Friday's Mega Millions drawing soars to $579,000,000

The lottery official announced that the Tuesday, December 3rd, 2024, Mega Millions drawing resulted in a carry over, generating an $579,000,000 grand prize for the next drawing Friday. The cash option stands at an estimated $$276.6 million up for grab. The numbers from Tuesday, December 3rd, 2024 drawing were 52-60-61-66-67 and the Mega Ball was 23, Megaplier was 4.
Even though there was no grand prize winner Tuesday evening, Mega Millions did produce some big winners. There were 3 lucky players that matched the first five lotto numbers and won the second prize. The 3 second prize winning ticket(s) purchased in OH(2),WI will collect $1,000,000 cash each.
In addition, 13 tickets matched four of the five lotto numbers, plus the Mega Ball number. Those tickets are each worth $10,000. Additional winners Tuesday evening included 393 tickets that matched 4 white ball numbers and won $500. 1109 tickets matched 3 of the 5 lotto numbers, plus the Mega Ball number. These tickets are also each worth $200.

Mega Millions is a consortium associated with 44 state lotteries. About 50% of the Mega Millions sales goes back for the players through prizes. To play, choose 5 numbers from a set of 70 and pick a Mega Ball number from a set of 25. Each play costs $1. The minimum Mega Millions advertised grand prize starts at $40 million. The annuity option is paid in 30 equal yearly installments. Winners may choose one time lump-sum cash payout option instead.
Compared with other Mega Millions states, all the nine prize tiers of California Mega Millions are parimutuel, instead of non-jackpot prize having a fixed value. This causes different amounts of prize for equivalent winners sold in the state of California when compared to those sold in other Mega Millions states. For example, the 2nd Mega Millions prizes is $1,000,000 could pay the winner over $1000,000 due to the pari-mutuel payout system of California lottery. For the same reason, CA state lottery doesn't offer Megaplier like other Mega Millions participants.
