The jackpot in America's favorite Mega Millions lottery game continues to climb exciting players all across the country. Because no player correctly matched all five lotto numbers plus the Mega Ball number in Friday's drawing the grand prize will build to an estimated $178,000,000! The cash value stands at a projected $$79.6 million. The winning numbers from Tuesday night, April 28th, 2026 were 14-36-41-47-66 with Mega Ball number 15 and Megaplier X. Nobody won the Mega Millions jackpot in the past 114 draws since Friday, March 28th, 2025.The last jackpot was won by a lucky ticket sold in IL, matched all six numbers for a $344 million top prize.
Though there was no grand prize winner Tuesday evening, some players still walked away with big money. A total of 4 lucky tickets won the 3rd prize. Among them, 4 tickets matched four of the five lotto numbers, as well as the Mega Ball number. Those tickets are each worth $10,000.
Additional prizes won Tuesday evening included 91 tickets that matched four lotto numbers and won $500. There were 269 tickets that matched 3 white ball numbers plus the Mega Ball and also won $200.
With 9 prize levels, there were a total of 395,476 winning tickets sold nationwide in the Tuesday, April 28th, 2026 drawing.
Mega Millions is played in 43 states and D.C. It holds the record largest jackpot in U.S. lottery history. On average, 50% of the Mega Millions sales goes back towards the players in prize winnings. Approximately 15% is used to as retailer commissions and lottery operating costs. Around 35% total sales is used in government services, education and charities in the participating lottery states. To play Mega Millions, choose 5 numbers from 1 to 70 and pick 1 Mega Ball number from a set of 25. Each play costs $1. In some states, players can choose to spend 1 extra dollar to purchase the Megaplier, which multiplies the winnings 2 to 5 times but not jackpot. The overall chances of winning any prizes is about 1 to 14. The chances of winning Mega Millions jackpot are about 1 in 302 million. The minimum Mega Millions jackpot starts at $40,000,000. The annuity option is paid in 30 equal yearly installments. Winners can select one time lump-sum cash payout instead.
Unlike other Mega Millions states, all the nine prize tiers of California Mega Millions are pari-mutuel, as opposed to non-jackpot prize having a set value. This results in different prize amounts for equivalent winning tickets sold in the state of California when compared to those sold in other 43 jurisdictons. Such as, the 2nd Mega Millions prizes is $1,000,000 could pay the winner over $1000,000 due to the pari-mutuel payout system of California lottery. For the same reason, California state lottery does not have Megaplier like other Mega Millions participants.
