The jackpot for Friday's Mega Millions drawing skyrockets to $319 million

The projected grand prize for Tuesday night's drawing was $297 million. According to official Mega Millions, nobody hit every number and the jackpot moved to $319 million. The cash option will be $218.7 million. The winning numbers from Tuesday night, April 27th, 2021 were 15, 22, 30, 41, 42 with Mega Ball number 25 and Megaplier X4.
Though the jackpot was not hit Tuesday evening, some people still walked away with big money. There were a total of 18 3rd prize winning tickets. These included 18 tickets that matched 4 white numbers together with Mega Ball and won $10,000.
Also, 490 tickets matched four of the five lotto numbers. Those tickets are each worth $500. 1287 tickets matched three of the five lotto numbers, as well as the Mega Ball number. These tickets are also each worth $200.
With nine different ways to win, there were a total of 1,835,560 winning tickets sold across the nation in the Tuesday, April 27th, 2021 drawing.
Mega Millions is a consortium associated with 44 state lotteries. It holds the record largest jackpot in North American lottery history. Around 50% of the Mega Millions sales goes back on the players through prizes. Around 15% goes to retailer commissions and lottery operation expenses. Approximately 35% total sales is used to support government services, education and charities in the participating lottery states. Mega Millions drawings occur 2 times a week every Tuesday and Friday night at 7:59 p.m. Pacific Time. Each play costs $1. In some states, players can choose to spend $1 extra to purchase the Megaplier, which multiplies the winnings 2 to 5 times but not grand prize. The odds of winning is about 1 to 14. The odds of matching all six Mega Millions numbers are 1 to 302,575,350. The minimum Mega Millions jackpot starts at 40 million dollar. The annuity option is paid in 30 equal yearly installments. Winners may select one time lump sum cash payout instead.
Unlike other Mega Millions states, all the nine prize levels of California Mega Millions are parimutuel, as opposed to non-jackpot prize having a set value. This results in different amounts of prize for equivalent winners sold in California when compared to those sold in other jurisdictons. For example, the 2nd Mega Millions prizes is $1,000,000 could pay the winner more than a million dollar due to the pari-mutuel payout system of California lottery. For the same reason, CA state lottery doesn't have Megaplier like other Mega Millions participants.
