The jackpot in America's favorite Mega Millions lottery game continues to grow exciting players all across the country. Since nobody correctly hit all 6 numbers in Friday's drawing the jackpot will leap to an estimated $169,000,000! The lump-sum cash payout stands at $$86.4 million up for grab. The winning numbers drawn Tuesday night, May 23rd, 2023 were 03, 10, 22, 65, 66 and the Mega Ball was 19, Megaplier was 2. The Mega Millions jackpot has been growing for 1006 draws since Friday, October 4th, 2013.A single lucky player from Maryland won the $189 million top prize in Tuesday, October 1st, 2013 drawing.
Although there was no jackpot winner Tuesday evening, Mega Millions did produce some big winners. A total of 6 lucky winners won the 3rd prize. These included 6 tickets that matched four white ball numbers plus the Mega Ball and won $10,000.
Additional prizes won Tuesday night included 227 tickets that matched 4 lotto numbers and won $500. Other prizes won included 647 tickets that matched 3 white numbers in addition to the Mega Ball and won $200.
With 9 different prize tiers, there were a total of 891,112 winning tickets sold nationwide in the Tuesday, May 23rd, 2023 drawing.
Mega Millions is a consortium of 44 state lotteries. It holds the record highest jackpot of $656 million in North American lottery history. Roughly 50% of the Mega Millions sales goes back towards the players through prize winnings. About 15% goes to commission of retailers and lottery operation expenses. Approximately 35% total sales is used in government services, education and charities in the member lottery states. Mega Millions drawings occur 2 times a week every Tuesday and Friday night at 7:59 p.m. Pacific Time. Mega Millions uses a 5/70 (white balls) + 1/25 (Mega Balls) system from which winning numbers are chosen. The minimum Mega Millions jackpot starts at $40,000,000. Its annuity option is paid in 30 equal annual installments. Winners may choose one time lump-sum cash payout instead.
As opposed to other Mega Millions states, all the nine prize tiers of California Mega Millions are pari-mutuel, instead of non-jackpot prize having a fixed value. This results in different amounts of prize for equivalent winning tickets sold in the state of California when compared to those sold in other forty three lotteries. One example is, the second Mega Millions prizes is $1,000,000 could pay the winner more than a million dollar due to the pari-mutuel payout system of California lottery. For the same reason, CA state lottery does not have Megaplier like other Mega Millions states.
